With the passage of time, visual communication has nearly become as indispensable as writing to let other people understand the message. Since, the dawn of the 21st century and technological innovation, it is easy for two people to commence communication visually. From school, colleges and universities to the workplace, visual communication has become rampant. Emojis are an appropriate example here to clear the clouded vision of people unaware of the power of visual communication. Think, for instance, a sentence takes words to describe the emotion, but, an emoji can do the same in a lesser time.
Unfortunately, the biggest drawback of relying heavily on visual communication is the risk of being misunderstood. It is the kicker that results in mayhem and chaos. Jim Patterson, co-founder, and CEO, Cotap says that: “The risk of being misunderstood is high in any digital communication; it’s hard to interpret humor and emotion because the appropriate speech conventions don’t exist in the written language. You get much more meaning out of someone’s tone and body language than you do their words”
It is correct that visual communication has taken us far in expressing ideas. From advertising to online learning, everything has its elements to endorse the philosophy of unrestrained communication. In reality, communication capabilities vary from person-to-person. It’s the magic of visual communication which bridges the gaps and let audiences or recipients to get the knack of the points of discussions. Visual communication is equally helpful in the business world as it’s in distant education and instant messaging. For example, the infographic is a good example here which represents data succinctly. Moreover, visuals have become major marketing tools as well. Text content might fail but visuals never lag behind when it comes to marketing a brand or service. One of the main confusions people are trapped when it comes to communicating an idea or anything visually. For instance, a photo, painting or sketches aren’t just formed to speak to the minds of observers. Enticing graphic designs, heart-throbbing typography, and impressive industrial designs also come into the realms of visual communication.
In this post, I am going to share the information about 3 pillars of visual communication. In conjunction with this trio, it will be easy for you to get rid of language paranoid and become the master visual communicator.
Consistency with constancy is the formula to build a repertoire with the audience. Consistency is the main ingredient to cook up the visual content for easy understanding at large. Let’s say; you have to create an infographic describing gun rights to the people, but, if you go away from the main point and weave off frequently from the main point, then it shows inconsistency for you to deliver the message in visual form. There is another benefit of having a mentality of consistency if you aim to convey your message visually. Lack of consistency compels people to turn on a dime and your message would go unheard.
By measurability, it means a balance. The more representable and comprehendible your visuals are, the easier it would be for you to measure their usefulness and uniqueness. For example, an illustration which is wary of meaningfulness or a sound idea fails to catch the attention. It does seem hard nut to crack most often when it comes to maintaining the balance between elements of visuals but with the simple and easy-to-apply strategy, measurability could be made achievable. Alike consistency, measurability is indispensable for better visual communication.
An adaptable visual design is preferable over the one that’s badly affected by the monotony and boredom. Adaptability is as essential for visual correspondence as carbon to steel. Adaptability is what that ease up transitioning and let you portray your message, vision, and an intriguing idea tersely. It is essential for anybody to embed elements of adaptability for clear, successful and meaningful visual communication.
A visual communication expresses messages vibrantly as compared to text. A visual message encompassing consistency, measurability, adaptability produces viable effects on recipients. We digest and dig into maximum information when we are exposed to the visual communication of true kind. This communication fits the bill and enables us to abridge the apertures for maximum understanding.
